Pushing the Envelope: Wrapping Up LetterMo 2024

February 29

That's a wrap! The Month of Letters, fondly known as LetterMo, ends today. I met the challenge of sending at least one piece of personal mail each day this month, and responding to every letter received. (Sundays and holidays, when the mail does not get picked up and delivered, are exceptions.)

My totals: I sent out 32 letters, cards, and packages this February. Those included long, newsy letters; shorter notes; Postcrossing postcards; birthday cards; Valentines' Day cards; and a couple of packages. And I received 16 letters and postcards.

Some of my outgoing wended its way to friends and family members. Some went to longtime penpals, and others were for LetterMo participants and Postcrossing participants I hadn't had contact with before. Some of the new LetterMo writers I corresponded with may become long-term penpals.

I enjoy writing letters. I've been a letter writer since I was a kid, maybe because we moved a lot, so I was always leaving friends behind. I still write letters, and not just during February. But much of the time, incoming letters languish for months before I get around to replying. I love making letter-writing a priority in February each year. It's a great way to reconnect with old friends and to make new ones.

Happy Leap Day!

Among the 32 cards and letters I sent this month for the Month of Letters challenge was this postcard from my 2023 trip to Italy. The recipient was a Postcrossing member in Colorado who particularly likes sunflowers.
