Inevitability

Finally finished recording the last of the vanished snow, I stroll across the soggy, soon-to-be-green side lawn, sit in silence on the porch swing, swing, basking in the long-overdue sunshine, recalling last year's sunny summer and the summer before that, and all the many sun-filled summers before that. I open my journal, write what I remember, hoping to remember forever, knowing that soon enough —sunshine or no sunshine— winter will win.
