Little Owls

I have written about seeing the little owls before but I am going to talk about them once again because they are marvellous little birds.

I have been able to go out looking for these little birds by following some public footpaths and looking in the big oak trees, but Michael has had much more success as there is a family of little owls living in the forest where he works. I will often be on the phone with him when he has finished work late and hear "LITTLE OWL" being screamed at me.

Some interesting facts about the little owl is that the species was introduced to the UK in the 19th centaury and now there are around 5,700 breeding pairs found here.

The little owls are identifiable by their long rounded wings with rapid wingbeats and they can often be seen during the day as they are like to sit on posts or in tree branches and watch the world go by.

I have only seen little owls a handful of times when we went camping at the site that Michael works at but it was amazing, we had actually gone out looking for barn owls but instead we were waiting and out of this big oak tree came a very angry little owl and hooted at us before disappearing back into the tree. It was actually quite amusing.

I love the photos that we have of the little owl, they make him look so serious and it makes me smile.

We have not been able to get out looking for little owls lately as Michaels work is picking up for the season and there is less time to go wandering.

Hopefully soon we will be able to get out and get some new pictures of these awesome owls!

Anyway, thank you for reading,

Happy photographing,
