What makes the wild cat unique?

On the outside, the wild cat is a feline with gray to brown fur with dark stripes on the back and sides. The tail has black rings and is bushy.

Like most felids, the wild cat is a nocturnal animal and is territorial. It is not uncommon to find him marking the territory using his anal glands or scratching tree trunks with his claws. These are all habits that will also be passed on to our domestic cats (its descendants).

Is the wild cat a social or a solitary animal?

The wild cat is an exclusively solitary animal. Males and females meet only during the mating season which takes place between February and March, a gestation of 63-68 days follows and 2-6 cubs are born. The latter are born in tree holes or underground burrows abounded by badgers or foxes .

What does the wild cat eat?

The wild cat mainly feeds on small animals such as mice, voles and small birds. However, it can also kill larger animals such as hares and fawns.

Who are the wild cat's natural enemies?

Wild cats often compete with foxes, golden jackals and lynxes for food and territory and for the fact that they can devour their cubs.

What relationship is between wild cats and human?

The wild cat was widespread in Europe, today its number has been reduced due to hunting for fur and because it was considered harmful. However, it does not currently appear to be in serious danger.
