Will Greater Swiss Mountain Dogs Do Well With Other Pets Around?

Also called the Swissy, Greater Swiss Mountain Dogs— especially those who were given proper socialization with fellow dogs during puppyhood— enjoy spending time with other dogs and playing rambunctiously with them. However, you may expect the opposite happens when unneutered or unspayed dogs are together.

Each individual Swiss has a varying prey drive. While some Swissies will chase small animals (cats, squirrels, etc.), others will simply not. As much as it's true with other breeds, the key to making your cat get along with other family pets is exposing your Swissy to them from puppyhood. Be careful with regard to introductions.

Swissies also need proper socialization. Be sure to start teaching them to become friendly around dogs and humans while they're still young. You may try pup kindergarten, as well as obedience classes, which don't only give them opportunities to socialize but also teach them manners.

A sudden change in your pet's behavior should warrant a visit to your pet clinic Brampton, ON.
