Galaxy vegan orange chocolate

Galaxy was always my favourite chocolate so I was very excited when they announced their vegan range a few years ago. But by range I mean...one plain chocolate option. I could not find this bar anywhere near me when it was first released and despite my looking I still have not been able to find it. Galaxy announced a chocolate orange flavour roughly a year ago (if my memory is correct anyway) but again I could not find it anywhere. I am not sure if it was only to be sold at certain supermarkets but either way I struggled to ever locate this.

Until this weekend. For whatever reason, my local supermarket has suddenly upped their game and appears to be stocking a lot of the brands and products that they never used to. So now I am quite overwhelmed with the new options. Because not only have they now got stock of the Galaxy plain chocolate, they also have the orange!

I obviously had to try the orange bar first because chocolate orange is one of the greatest flavours out there. Anyone who says otherwise is lying to themselves. I always remember Galaxy chocolate being one of the richest and creamiest of the chocolates out there and so I admit I had somewhat high hopes for this. In all honesty, whilst this chocolate is not the same level of creaminess that I remember from dairy Galaxy bars, it is still far creamier than the other vegan options out there. It really did just melt in my mouth and felt very rich and silky. I sometimes find that vegan chocolates can have a bit of a powdery aftertaste to them but there was none of that with this.

The orange flavouring is well balanced and it really did taste like a Terry's chocolate orange. I am still hoping that they will FINALLY release a vegan version of this too, but I have not heard anything. But either way, this Galaxy version will do very nicely. The chocolate is rich but not sickly so it was a very nice balance of the flavours. It is very moreish. It comes as a big slab of chocolate that you break into the recognisable Galaxy sections but one row is definitely not enough. I could have easily eaten the entire bar in one sitting and still gone back for another bar. So be warned...

With all that being said...this bar was £3. £3!! For that price point it had best be something special. I feel like this was definitely better than your regular chocolate offerings, so the £3 is somewhat justified. The chocolate itself is quite thin though. I do find this with most vegan chocolate though (aside from Vego Bars) and I am not sure if it's to do with the ingredients used or just the way its manufactured but vegan chocolate always seems to be thinner. It is even more annoying though when you see that a dairy milk Galaxy bar is £2 for 200g of chocolate, whilst the vegan version is £3 for 100g. More money for less chocolate. I understand that companies do this so they can make a profit on a new product, and my only hope is that as demand for the vegan version rises, the price will fall to be at the same level as the dairy options.

Overall: 6/10. A very good option out there, but still very expensive. Good for a very special treat, but not something I'd buy regularly.
