Now this donut is actually a common donut for Krispy Kreme, however it is the first time I have actually seen it on offer near me. The allergens also listed only wheat and soya and when I check the full allergen menu, it turns out that this little beauty if accidentally vegan. It is not Vegan trademark certified but having checked all of the ingredients it appears that there are no animal derived products included in this.
The name of the donut should have given away that it was indeed filled but for some reason my brain did not compute this information. I saw a ring donut and could not wrap my head around a ring donut also being filled. So the filling was a very nice surprise....even if it really shouldn't have been a surprise at all!
The donut itself is just your basic classic glazed ring with a little flourish of icing along the top. The creme filling is somewhat like marshmallow - it is very thick and sticky, with a very sweet taste. The actual flavour seems to just be basic icing sugar. The donut literally tastes like a glazed donut, with with a slightly thicker icing in the middle of it all.
Overall there isn't much to say about this donut. It really is just a slightly posher glazed donut. If you wanted something a little nicer than your basic donut, but didn't really want to go so far as a full blown jam filled donut then this would be ideal. I'm glad I tried it, because it was indeed very nice. As I say, I'd probably pick this up if I wanted something a little bit sweeter and a little fancier than the basic glazed, but it's not a donut that I would actively seek out on my travels.
Overall: 6/10. Better than your basic, but still pretty simplistic. Exactly what you want from a sweet donut, but with a little less flourish.
