BC Visit Day 6

Peter Gruner

February 28

This was our last full day out West. And it was going to be special. Even though the day before was the most important. Because of the trivia.

Today was the day for the BIG meal.

Keaton was going to be smoking some meat in his smoker. Chicken, pork loin, and sausages. Yum yum.

But that was for dinner. We had the rest of the day to enjoy first.

We started by going over to see where Keaton works. He's a smoke jumper with Parattack. That means he jumps out of planes and parachutes down to fight forest fires.

It was nice to see his workplace after hearing about it for a few years.

After that, we drove to his friends Axel and Chelsea's place. Axel was home so he introduced us to their Fainting Goats.

Alas, there was no fainting while we were there.

And then Axel took us down to the Peace River where we enjoyed the views. It was easily accessible from his property.

Although, there was ice around the riverbank, it was still unseasonably warm. And sunny. Great walking weather.

The chicken roti meal that got postponed the day before? That was our lunch. Delicious!!

Next on the agenda was a fire in Keaton and Kate's back yard. We were having it in the afternoon, instead of the evening.

We prepared our drinks and went out to watch Keaton start the fire.

It was a good thing that we started when we did. The clouds rolled in, and it started snowing shortly after we got the fire going.

The skies darkened. The wind blew. And snow started covering the parts of us not facing the fire.

We still managed to enjoy our drinks and enjoy a roasted hot dog before we decided to go back inside.

There was plenty to do inside. A game of pool followed by some darts.

No one was impaled. And everyone had fun, as far as I could tell.

Finally, the feast was ready.

And it was worth the wait.

Caileigh made some corn bread and we had left over veggies from the night before.

And of course, there were some night caps and chats before bedtime.

We seem to drink a fair amount when we're together. No one gets drunk or tipsy. But there is imbibing…

It will be sad to say goodbye.
