Keeper of Anger

Anger has been given a bad rap. Too often children are taught that anger is not an acceptable emotion. Anger, as with any emotion, is not good or bad, it is part of the human experience. Anger plays an important part in life. It lets you know when you perceive that you are being treated unfairly or unjustly. It lets you know when your boundaries are being violated. It lights a fire in you to change something. To not honor your anger, to not work through it, is to put out your creative fire.

Instead of teaching children to tamp down their anger, to shove it aside or put it in a box inside unfelt; it is far better to let them feel their anger and to teach them how to feel through their anger to find out what is wrong. Anger has a voice and it needs to be heard.

As an adult you can unlearn the ways you were taught to deal with anger if that is needed. Unexpressed anger builds into rage. Instead, you are invited to listen to what your anger has to tell you. What action is needed? What change can you initiate? What injustices can be transformed into justice? Use the creative fire of your anger to make positive changes in your life.
