Setting A Feeding Schedule For Pet Dogs

Feeding a dog twice a day is ideal, according to experts. This can be done by dividing the food your dog is required to take into 2 meals, with an 8-12 hour gap. These methods are effective in setting a meal plan for your dog.

Here are different strategies to use in setting a feeding schedule for your dog:

●Portion control diet. Measuring your dog's food and feeding him 1 or 2 meals daily controls your pet's food intake. This is used to control your pet's weight and to prevent him from overeating.

●Free-choice feeding. This option means that the food is ready for your dog to eat anytime he wants to. This is applicable to dry food that will not get spoiled if left unattended. However, free-fed dogs tend to get obese due to overeating.

●Timed feeding. It means that your pet's food is available only for a certain time. An example of this is when a dog's food is given within 30 minutes then will be taken away once the time is up, even if there's food left unconsumed.

A sudden change in your pet's appetite and/or eating habits should warrant a visit to your veterinary hospital Kerrville TX.
