Close encounters of the Wagtail kind

Pete

May 2

On our trip to Dungeness last Wednesday, we had an amazing encounter with a Pied Wagtail. As we were driving along it landed on the car and proceeded to stay there as we continued to drive, albeit very slowly. It seemed very interested in the area around the windscreen wipers and we were unsure if it was after food or could just see its reflection in the bonnet. Occasionally it would fly off but would soon be back often perching first on the wing mirror before moving back to the bonnet. Eventually, it flew off and landed on the road.

Amazingly as we drove back up the road it reappeared on the car and began the same behavoir before finally flying off to perch on a post as we drove away.

Thanks to Nicole for the photos.
