New project

By derrycats on August 2, 2024

Y'all don't hear from me for ages, and now it will be two days in a row.

It seems our solution to contagious diseases in various rooms of our home is to paint. Gilda, our nearly 12-year-old cat, lives in our large laundry room. It was an add-on to the house many decades ago, and spans most of the length of the house, so it is a big space and has a couple of entry/exit points. Gilda is terrified of the dogs, and Gracie LOVES to chase her, so during the day she mostly hangs in the laundry room with her cat tree, and she's getting a new one now since the old one can't be cleared of ringworm. (She enjoys the rest of the house at night when the dogs are tucked in.)

Since the cats are, sadly, in captivity still for two more weeks, we decided this is the perfect time to paint the really dingy-looking laundry room. Years of cats and litter boxes back there have it looking pretty sad, so we will give Gilda not only a new cat tree, but a new look by the time she can leave the cage, post-ringworm.

We selected new blinds a couple days ago for the laundry room (which doesn't have any), the kitchen and one bedroom upstairs. After renovating the kitchen this year, the bathroom last year, and putting in central air this spring (sooooo glad we did that!) we'll do a few rooms at a time for the blinds until our bank account builds up a little bit more! But since we have chosen the blinds, we decided to choose the paint colors around that. Here's what the color palette will be:

Perfect colors for an old home in Hershey (as in chocolate) and the blinds will be gorgeous in the new kitchen as well. The dark chocolate will be the trim. Lighter cocoa will be some walls, and the swiss cream off white will be for an accent wall and some cupboards so the place doesn't look all brown when we're done. The room gets a lot of sunlight - south-facing- so even with the browns it should have a warm look to it when we're done. I hope Gilda likes it! Time to prep everything!
