Darby arrived this morning for a few days. I warned them about our icy driveway: of course her owners had just come up it, but it's more dangerous going downhill.

They laughed when I told them that, when I almost went into the ditch yesterday, my first thought was for Mica's safety in the passenger seat.

Happy Hanukkah, Rachel in New York and all others who read this blog!

Gary's brother's family does the celebration in style, with a menorah for each daughter and more.

Last night we feasted on Zev-raised roast beef, latkes with sour cream, plus applesauce made by Sharon, along with other beautiful foods grown and prepared by the two of them. There were baked leeks, coleslaw, pickled beets and dilly beans. Also apple-upside-down cake!

We had the menorah out at home, and Gary had lit the candle for First Night. I didn't take a photo … we are using tiny birthday candles and it doesn't make too impressive a picture. Perhaps Amazon will deliver the right Hanukkah candles soon: I ordered them only recently.

Today for grooming, I have just one quiet little cat, Chanel. Her owners feel she needs baths, and she is calmer than most dogs for baths, nails and brushing.

At the Pet Hostel, we have Darby, Storm & Lumi, Brutus, Gus & Clemina, and Minna. Minna just comes for the day regularly, while her owner works in McBride.

Last night, Zev and Sharon presented us with several pounds of rolled oats. As it happened, Zev scored a deal on thousands of pounds of organic oats (destined for Japan) that were in a wreck near here. The oats were rolled, and then the truck rolled. The recovery company was selling off the tonnage, and farmers could buy it for livestock … and human friends too.

Gary says it's tasty and so fresh. I might feed our "older" rolled oats to the chickens. I have "Costco" quantity , but not tons!

I must get up and start the day properly before Chanel arrives. I've been up and down and outside and back in, reheating my coffee and chatting.

Hope your day is good. 🤗
