Scarista House is a charming and refined, small hotel and restaurant situated in a secluded location at Sgarasta Bheag, with stunning views of one of the most beautiful beaches on the southwest coast of Harris. All of our rooms offer picturesque views of the sea, sand, and hills. Although Scarista House is not a grand, imposing estate, it is a welcoming and comfortable place to stay.
The main house has three bedrooms, while the adjacent Glebe House has three suites, each with its own private sitting room, all of which have en-suite bathrooms and ocean views. The furniture and fabrics in our rooms are carefully chosen to reflect the period and original use of the house.
Our library and first-floor drawing room, both featuring open fires, are also available to guests. The library is stocked with numerous books and occasionally visited by our resident pets, Maud the pug, Brodie the spaniel, and our two cats, Mister and Wee Hamish. However, pets are not allowed in the comfortable first-floor drawing room or the two dining rooms. The view of the ocean from the writing table in the window of this room is particularly breathtaking. Children are welcome, and we offer an early evening meal.
Glebe Cottage is located in the single-story Glebe House, just across the garden from Scarista House. The cottage is designed to appeal to families with children and pets and is more simply furnished and decorated than Scarista House. It can accommodate up to four adults and two children.
There are plenty of things to do on the Isle of Harris, such as visiting weavers, fishing, golfing, painting, cycling, climbing, archaeology, surfing, and diving. Harris Tweed is a must-see on the island and it must be handwoven by islanders at their homes in the Outer Hebrides, finished in the Outer Hebrides, and made from pure virgin wool dyed and spun in the Outer Hebrides to be classified as Harris Tweed.
