There are still different opinions regarding when and where Capoeira was created. Most people believe that it was invented by African slaves brought to Brazil during Portuguese colonization of South America in the XVII century. There were 3 main ports: Salvador, Rio de Janeiro and Recife. There isn't much evidence to show that the first settlement of slaves was established in Rio de Janeiro, but the closest manifestation of Capoeira using modern instruments was discovered in Salvador de Bahia. There are afro culture similarities among Brazil, Colombia and Carribean Islands because most of their African population came from same regions and tribes of Angola and part of Congo e.g. Yoruba language, Candomble religion and similar drum instruments. Ladja fight ritual in Martinica Island is very similar to Capoeira.
