Beirhope - Woodland Camping offers a wonderful off-grid, eco camping experience in Hownam. You can look forward to a truly unique experience, including alpaca walking in the Cheviot Hills, perfect for a truly unforgettable holiday in the Scottish Borders. They are close to Kelso and just an hour's drive from Edinburgh and Newcastle.
This is perfect for experiencing nature at its finest, a true paradise for nature lovers looking for somewhere special to stay. You can pack up your tent and head to the hills, offering the chance to camp in the gorgeous Kale Valley. Bring your tent and camping equipment and enjoy a unique pitch which is next to the friendly alpacas.
Pitch 1 can accommodate a medium tent of up to 4 people and pitch 2 is a small tent of up to a maximum of 2 people. Pitch 3 is dog friendly and tucked away in our secluded woodland. You can enjoy fabulous views of the majestic Thowlestaine Hill and fall asleep to the sounds of the nearby stream. Each pitch also benefits from having its own fire pit, great for huddling around whilst gazing at the starry night sky.
You can enjoy a touch of luxury in the bell tent, a great alternative for those that don't fancy the traditional camping experience. Facilities include 1 double, 2 singles, crockery/cutlery, outdoor camping kitchen and an outdoor patio area for al fresco dining when the sun is shining. A lovely welcome pack os provided and guests have shared use of a hot bucket shower and loo.
Onsite there are a range of facilities to suit all your needs, including a shared toilet and bucket shower facilities. There is a delightful onsite shop that sells luxury Scottish yarn and wool, knitwear, jams and preserves plus much more. There is also a shared fridge for guests.
You can enjoy magical alpaca trekking whilst staying here, offering the perfect opportunity to see the amazing landscape whilst getting to know these friendly creatures. From a 1-hour stroll to a 3-hour hike, a range of walking packages are offered. You can also come and feed the alpacas or have exclusive use of a picnic area overlooking the alpacas in their paddock. Please note, pets cannot come on the alpaca walk.
Right on the doorstep, there are lots of wonderful dog walks to enjoy.
While staying here you can make the most of the gorgeous landscape, with lots of scenic walking and cycling routes in the area. You can also visit nearby Kelso, home to glorious Kelso Abbey and the magnificent Floors Castle, a turreted 18th Century Castle.
