Happy Labour's Day to my fellow Italians and happy Sunday to the rest of y'all, I hope you are having a lovely weekend and that your week is as good as Heartstopper is.
If you have been following me for any amount of time on any of the social media I use, you most definitely know I love Heartstopper and the Osemanverse with my whole sould and seeing the success the TV series is having is both amazing and terrifying, for some reason. But, since everyone is now watching it, I have decided to create a book tag inspired by the characters. The questions will be really simple, because I want everyone to be able to answer them, even if they don't read as much as the book community generally does. So, without further ado, let's get started with the questions. Personally, I am going to only answer with LGBT+ characters, to celebrate the importance this series has for us, but you can pick whichever characters you think would be
Charlie Spring: a character who's stronger than they look You can interpret this however you want. I am going to stick to Charlie's character and choose someone who's mentally stronger than they seem from the outside, but you could also use a character who's physically strong. Anyways, I am going to say Nico di Angelo, of course, because they are the same character in different fonts and they are both my children. Nico, being so small and young, may seem weak, but he actually is extremely strong and has endured more than a human being (whether they are demigods or not) should.
Nick Nelson: a character you think would be a great hugger Nick is canonically a good hugger and I think Kit Connor managed to portray that very well in the TV show, so I wanted his question to be about hugs. I couldn't tell what makes a character a potential good hugger, but I feel like Leah Burke from the Simonverse by Becky Albertalli would give out great hugs, that would make you feel protected and at peace with the world. I have been wanting to reread the Simonverse for some time now, and this question just made the urge even more urgent, so watch me drop everything and do that.
Darcy Olsson: a chaotic character with a heart of gold Darcy is one of my favourite characters ever and I just love how chaotic she is. To answer, I am going to cheat a little bit and choose another character from the Osemanverse, because I have been wishing for them to meet each other for the longest time. If you've read Alice's books, you may know who I am talking about. If you haven't, I am talking about Lister Bird one of the members of The ARK, the band featured in I Was Born for This. I think that if he and Darcy ever met, they would unleash such chaos everyone would be swept off their feet.
Tara Jones: a character you'd want as your BFF Tara is the softest best girl and she owns my heart. I really love how they showed her making friends with Elle in the TV show and I decided to make her question about how much of a great friend she is. She is one of the most underrated characters, in my opinion, and I hope she gets more screentime in season two (because we are going to get a season two, or we riot). So, there are a lot of characters who would make great BFFs, I think, but I am going to say Alex Fierro from Magnus Chase, because I think we would have a lot of fun together and she is just amazing, I love her so much and she is my baby.
Elle Argent: a character you'd steal clothes from Elle is the moment, she is that girl and I am in love with her style, both in the graphic novel and in the show. The way she is dressed at Charlie's birthday? Perfection, utter perfection. I love her space buns, her shirt, her dress, everything. Also, she has the cutest overalls and I love overalls, so I would gladly raid her closet. Another character that has an amazing style, for me, is Goldie Vance from the Goldie Vance comics. I especially love her jeans you can see on the cover of book one, but in general she has such a cute style!
Tao Xu: a character who's scared to be left behing I am so happy they gave Tao a bit more of screentime in the TV show and I actually enjoyed the little changes they made, because it made him even more relatable. This question can be interpreted however you want, in the sense that it doesn't have to be a character that explicitly stated they were afraid of being left behind, if you think they fit the question, they do. Personally, I am choosing Devin from Meet Cute Diary as I'd say xe is afraid that Noah (that little shit) is gonna leave them behind and forget about xem.
Isaac Henderson: a character you headcanon as aro/ace If you don't know, Isaac is a new character introduced in the TV show in lieu of Aled Last and Alice confirmed what most of us thought: he is aroace! I think in season two this is going to be explored and made canon on screen. For this question, however, we are talking about headcanons, since we all had this headcanon before getting it confirmed. You can choose an aro, ace or aroace spectrum headcanon. Personally, I am going to go with an ace headcanon, as I believe Wylan Van Eck is a gay ace and no one will convince me otherwise.
Tori Spring: a character who has a great relationship with their sibling(s) I decided to focus on the TV series, so I didn't use any detail from Solitaire to talk about Tori. In the TV show you can see she is a great sister to Charlie and she is very supportive; this is true in general, so I think it makes a great question for her. I had to think really hard about this, because I literally can't remember I single thing I read, so imagine how well I remember siblings… I ended up choosing Darcy Phillips from Perfect on Paper by Sophie Gonzales, because I am pretty sure she has a sibling and they have a good relationship.
Imogen Headley: a misunderstood character I can't stand that fact that the Internet hates Imogen more than they hate characters like B*n and Harry, to be honest. Is Imogen perfect? No, but she isn't as bad as everyone makes her out to be. She has a lot of growth to do and I hope in season two we have a discourse on how it isn't enough saying you are an ally, you have to act on it, but apart from this, I really like her and I think she is misunderstood. Another character that is generally misunderstood is Jay from Jay's Gay Agenda. Reviewers are quick to point at him and say he is a cheater, but he actually hasn't cheated and the problems of the book were other.
Nellie the Dog: a character with a cute sidekick Nellie is the star of this show! I can't wait until we see Henry as well, they are going to be the cutest duo ever. For this question you can choose either a human sidekick or a non-human one. I think this is probably the most difficult question of the tag, because — as I said — I totally forget everything I read. I am going to say Ben and Liam from Chef's Kiss, even if Watson the Taste-Testing Pig is not really theirs. He is just so cute, so I am going to make it count, especially because I don't remember the name of the actual owner.
B*n H*pe: a character you would slap in the face (not affectionately) I wanted to say something really worse than slap in the face, but I don't wanna get banned by WordPress, so I'll leave that to your imagination. I don't know if my answer could be potentially a spoiler for The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo, so I am just gonna warn you. Skip this question if you don't know anything about the book. The husbands are bad, and I'd gladly k*ll them all, but as I said I am only picking LGBT+ characters, I am going to go with Celia. I am sorry, but I can't stand her and she deserves a slap. She doesn't deserve worse, as B*n does, but a slap in the face would be good for her, I believe.
And that would be all! Feel free to do this tag and don't forget to tag me, so that I can see your answers, as I would love to know them.
Keep an eye out in the next few days, as I have more Osemanverse content coming your way (namely, the updated guide to the books and the TV show review).
