Cats have a hunting instinct, the behavior being a normal thing. Your pet cat is just like any other member of the cat family - she is a carnivore. Cats are well-suited to the hunting lifestyle. They are finely-tuned predators, not only evolved to consume meat but have also become wholly dependent on meat diets (obligate carnivores). Cats cannot survive on a diet that lacks meat.
Confining a pet cat inside the home might stop her from hunting, but she will require something to express this instinctive behavior.
