Gordon Setters have an attractive, soft, and shiny coat— some pups have slight waves on their coats, while others have them straight. Feathering (longer hair) is present on their chests, ears, bellies, and back of their legs. Their short tails also have long hairs, which tend to grow shorter as they approach the tail's end, forming a triangular shape.
Gordon Setters have a black-and-tan coat. The tan parts can be seen as mahogany or rich chestnut-colored marks on the dog's eyes, muzzle, throat, chest (two big spots), forelegs, and vent (anal opening). Their hind legs may also have some tan hairs, but they shouldn't eliminate the black parts. Remember that their tan and black colors are well-defined and should never be mixed. You may also see a white spot on some Gordons' chest, but the smaller it is, the better.
Excessive hair loss or other skin and hair coat issues should be brought to the attention of your veterinarian Metairie, LA.
