One of the worst misconceptions about veganism is that there is no such thing as vegan luxury. Yes you can get very high quality goods - both food and beauty wise - but the large name luxury brands very rarely offer anything that is vegan friendly. Or they do, but it is so extortionately priced that no one in their right mind would ever actually buy the product.
I always used to love a Champneys Spa Day. In the UK it is one of the most luxurious spa companies and honestly I would say that it is completely founded. Their spa in Tring, Hertfordshire, is exactly what you would expect from a very expensive spa with the waterfall showers and jet powered hot tubs and incredibly relaxing, well landscaped grounds with people doing yoga. I have only been once as a very special treat, but this was about 15 years ago...if not longer. When I started to transition to a vegan lifestyle, I didn't even both looking at Champneys products because a) I knew they would have nothing vegan and b) it was always WAY too expensive for my minimum wage pay checks.
Hence my surprise when I won a big Champneys gift bag at a work Christmas event. Out of the 8 products that were in the gift box, 6 of them were vegan friendly, including this body cleanser. It is also clearly labelled as vegan friendly and that the product has not been tested on animals and I must admit I was very shocked but very excited.
This product is indeed very nice. It is part of their 'awake' range, so as a person who showers in the evenings I was curious as to how this would affect me. If at all. Now for me, it is very nice. It smells lovely, with that 'spa smell' to it but with a hint of fruit. It lathers up into a very soft lather with a lot of bubbles, and I do not care how old a person is, bubbles are always fun. It feels very soft on the skin and leaves my skin feeling soft and hydrated. Did it wake me up? Or energise me? No. But it was still a very nice little treat at the end of a very long day.
Now is this any more luxurious than some other shower products I have used? I would have to say no. While it is a very nice product, I personally cannot feel any real difference in this compared to the usual shower products I use. It is also slightly pricey, especially when you think that you can buy some lovely shower products from Tesco for around £3, and it will last the same amount of time.
I have been using this product since the New Year and I am only about 3/4 through the bottle so you do not need a lot of product at all when you shower. As I say I got this as part of a big gift bag, that I won at a raffle, but having a quick look online it seems you can buy this product for around £10 depending on where you shop from. You can also however buy it as part of smaller gift bags that are around £20-£25 so it seems to be readily available. Personally, that price seems quite reasonable to me, especially when you factor in the other products you are also getting in the gift set. Would I buy this often? For me, maybe as a treat. But as gift for a friend I would definitely recommend this.
Overall: 8/10. A very posh product, but not enough to really knock my socks off.
