Well, I have been kittenless for almost three weeks. Bet most of you thought I could do it! The last of the kittens left for their forever homes almost three weeks ago, and it is just me and Nova, the momma kitty. She's a super sweet cat, and I can't believe she's still with me, but the right soul or souls will come along. I got a new photo of her for her webpage, just to keep things fresh.
Because we're having the carpets pulled up from the office and the hallway, the last areas (almost) to be done with luxury vinyl, and it will be chaotic here last this week, Nova is going over to a local bookstore that showcases our cats. If she gets along with the cats that reside there she can roam freely after a day or two in confinement while she gets used to everything. We adopt lots of cats our from there, so paws crossed for her. She's ready to have a forever home now. She was a fantastic momma cat, but she seems perfectly content to be kittenless now.
The rescue I work with hasn't been getting any calls for help with kittens, which is typical of this time of year. But the winter hasn't been very cold and I hear, from the TNR clinics, that the cats coming in are quite pregnant so I'm betting that by the end of February or so we will be getting lots of requests for help. We've had lots of adoptions lately, so we have several fosters who are kittenless as well, and everyone is ready for the onslaught!
And because things have been quiet, I took care of that for the foreseeable future. I was asked to be the co-coordinator with the cat adoption coordinator and I agreed so I'm busy learning the computer systems and making suggestions about a variety of things...making a nuisance of myself. And signed on a new, very experienced foster. I will continue to foster as well, but doing 29 cats last year was a bit much, and I'm going back down to having one foster room and my more nornal 15 or so kittens a year. With the work coordinating things as well, I'll be plenty busy. Thank goodness for retirement.
I finish up this week with the two cats I agreed to visit daily while their person is hospitalized. They are going to live, for the time being, with someone from the vet's office come Friday and that will be nice for them. They were pretty feral-acting when I started with them nearly five weeks ago, but they wait at the door each day for me now, and are actually very sweet cats. I don't know what will happen long term for them, as their person probably can't really care for them much anymore, but that is a question waiting in the wings, and I leave that between her, her vet, and the management company of the building, though if she eventually wants help rehoming them I'll definitely assist.
That's the news from here. My office is nearly empty awaiting the contractor Wednesday or Thursday. Can't wait to get rid of these 16 year old carpets. Took the opportunity to really clean out all kinds of stuff not needed anymore as we got things moved. Hopefully it will feel lighter and less cluttered when it all comes back together. Fifteen years of pet sitting files, six years of the Derry Township Community Cats files, and all my Castaway rescue stuff really needed a good sorting. Phew.
