The starved dogs spent a quiet night Friday and greeted me with joy in the morning Saturday. Poor things … I wish I could feed them all they'd eat, but that could kill them.
On and off Saturday, I spent time on the phone or in text with shelters, or just leaving messages. I tried to answer texts and keep lists of folks who wanted me to give progress reports. I find it awkward to answer this question, "What can I do to help?", and some folks just eTransfered donations.
In the afternoon, I attended a simple get-together to honour a friend who died a few weeks ago. As our daughters grew up in Dunster, Chuck McNaughton would visit and enjoy their antics. He and Pat would talk about livestock and tractors and such.
Chuck would sometimes help with tasks, including Pet Hostel-related/building projects, jobs that Pat would have resented doing alone or with me. Chuck will be missed by many, and the gathering was meant to seem like "coffee time" and story telling at his shop.
Dogs went home and others arrived, as usual. Today, we have Lakita who arrived before opening hour, plus Chloe & Teo, Piper, Juno, Charlie & Jack, Minna, Stanley, Sadie, Jake and Carly. Also, cats Kidcat and Maki, who have been here before. Also the two strays of course.
I am tired.
In the morning, I missed an entire ZOOM conference with Shelly, Kim, Susan and Linden. I was clipping a dog's nails but also chatting with a customer.
If I find a plan for the rescued dogs, I would take them even as far as Kamloops, about 5 hours away. I'd welcome the excuse to simply drive and have the break, as long as Gary can watch over the business. And there's a Costco in Prince George, Kamloops … and even Calgary!
Hope your Sunday is lovely.
