What do you call a group of incredible artists donating their work to raise funds to help animals? Petopia!
Petopia is an art show featuring 16 artists who have collaborated on an exhibition of their work to support two beloved animal charities, right here in the Yucatan. These are - Ester y Liza, a spay & neuter programme performing mass sterilisation clinics for cats and dogs at low cost, and Evolución AC, an animal shelter providing care and rehoming unwanted, abused, abandoned and neglected pets. 100% of the proceeds will go to these two charities.
In July, Gwen Graham, one of the organisers and artists, contacted Pet Friendly Yucatan to ask about animal welfare groups that needed support locally. Of course, our mission is to promote sterilisation and responsible pet care so we suggested Ester y Liza. We are very aware that one particular shelter, Evolucion AC, has become a place where people dump cats and dogs, and they work so very hard to provide food and veterinary care for these animals, so we asked that they also be considered.
Months later, Gwen got in touch again to say that the art show was being planned at Jeanne Ashman's beautiful art gallery, Casa de la Bestia, which really could not be more appropriately named. She also confirmed after meeting Jorge Kendall, founder of Ester y Liza, and visiting Evolucion AC, they wanted to support them both.
Senorito Beauregard, known to his friends (that means everyone!) as Beaux, decided to take us along for a sneak peak before the official opening on Friday the 1st of December - this weekend - at 6pm. The artists have given us permission to share a little of what we saw, but you truly are in for a delight.
You'll see dogs.
You'll see cats. (we were in love with these little cat paws!)
You'll even see fish. Well, at least what's left of fish.
Meanwhile, Beaux was running his art critic's nose over the offerings and he seemed to approve.
Petopia is going to be fun, fabulous, and a chance to start off the December season with your heart full of love and generosity, because supporting this art show will help save lives. Not only that, but contribute to essential services that help make Merida a more beautiful city.
Support art! Support cats and dogs! Buy some cat feet! Buy paintings! Get to know the heart of Merida's art community! Have fun!
Because of the layout of the gallery and exhibition it is not appropriate for dogs to attend. Beaux was given special dispensation due to his status of Ambassador.
