I find that the hunt for good vegan chocolate is an ongoing battle. My favourite used to be the Tesco's own brand orange chocolate, but it seems that they have now discontinued this to replace it with new own brand chocolate bars, none of which are vegan. Which is such a shame because this was one of the few affordable chocolate bars out there - I find it hard to justify buying a chocolate bar that costs £3 because it's vegan whilst the non-vegan version is only £1. The vegan tax really hits hard with some brands.
I found this brand by accident whilst I was looking at candy in my local B&M shop. I have also not seen this brand on sale in any other supermarket or store, at least not where I live in Hertfordshire. So I decided to give it a try.
I find sometimes that vegan chocolate can have that odd grainy texture to it, especially when you are buying some of the cheaper options out there. So I didn't have high hopes for this, as it was an unknown brand and was also pretty cheap. It cost me £1.50 and granted it is a lightly smaller bar than normal, but it is still one of the more affordable options out there.
Well don't I feel silly. This stuff is so good. I feel it must be the oat milk used to make the chocolate, because this chocolate is so creamy. It is quite sweet but it does also taste like milk chocolate, which I find to be quite rare with chocolate bars these days. I'm not sure if the milk used somewhat waters down the flavour in other brands? But not in this case. It is also a pretty thick chocolate bar, so whilst it is shorter than other bars, it is easily twice as thick. This means you get a very nice crunch when you bite into the chocolate and can actually chew it before it just melts away like the thinner options tend to do. I would however warn you about putting this into the fridge, as I fear that you'd chip a tooth if you tried to bite through a solid bar of this thickness. So just something to be aware of if you are someone who prefers to keep chocolate in the fridge (no judgement, I tend to do the same).
Another warning is that this chocolate is obscenely moreish. I can eat - and I have done before - the whole bar in one sitting, and the joy of this bar is that it isn't overly sweet or chocolatey so it doesn't make you feel sick after a few bites. I now have to break off a bit and leave the packet in the drawer because I could munch away on this bar easily without even thinking about it. Starting to think my new found love of oat milk is actually becomming a bit of a problem...
Overall: 9/10. This is my new go-to for chocolate.
