Back in the early 1990's My Dad cobbled together my first computer.
I used it for the same thing I use it for now- I write on it . In addition here wasn't a lot of 'net' to surf and if there was I probably didn't do much of that because I was raising three boys and who had time to sit and stare at a computer screen for hours at a time?
Back then we didn't have a computer in every room that everyone could jump on so looking back on it it really wasn't possible to do that anyway.
So anyway, this is the idea- this was the beast in my home office.
The funny thing is, when this thing had issues, I could fix it. Me. And I didn't know squat about computers- but some of my friends and my Dad were that at the start of the age of computers becoming a big thing so I had lots or resources to tap.
In a way, I actually felt like I understood this machine.
Now days I use my Google Chrome Notebook- my laptop drove me crazy for the last time so I ditched it. My notebook is great for writing, when I travel I can stream my movies from the same services I use on my smart TV and I am happy as a clam.
Google takes care of everything including security and depending on how long you Notebook is good for, it will update itself and not bother you. Of course when it can't update anymore the entire notebook is dead, but who cares? I just get a new one and life goes on.
I've learned to shop for my Chromebooks by using Googles info list of the Chromebooks life span. You have to be careful because you can buy a new Chromebook and if you don't check the model number it might update itself once and then it's done. In a nutshell, it is no longer secure.
And you're out of luck because you're not going to get your money back.
The first Chromebook I bought lasted for almost two years because I didn't check the dates- but I only paid $80.00 for it and to be honest, I can spend that much on a manicure. So in the grand scheme of things I got more out the Chromebook for my money and I learned a lesson about how to shop for these things.
I doubt if I will ever own a laptop or pc again- they're not worth the hassle or the cost. You'd think that owning these things would have become easier or less expensive but they have not.
