Let's start with some good news. Peter and Paul have an adopter. They are meeting the kittens tomorrow, but I think there's no chance they won't adopt these two. They're a nice couple and so excited about the kittens. The boys get neutered on Tuesday and will go home later that week,
Mary definitely has an adopter who met her today. She's going to have a six month old sister who is desperate for a playmate and it should be a great match. Mary gets spayed on Valentine's Day and can go home the following Sunday.
I'll enjoy them in the meantime, but am very pleased with their adopters!
I did not end up taking in the calico kitten as expected. Sadly she has ringworm, and right now I don't have a space to isolate her, so she wasn't transported to us. I'm just glad they noticed the ringworm before transport.
But on Wednesday I will be taking in a cat that sort of broke my heart, and the hearts of many others. She is coming from the same rescue as the calico girl is at. They were called in because some folks had vacated their apartment, probably unbeknownst to the landlord, and when this was discovered, there were four cats left behind there. Three were already dead, and this fourth one was just short of total starvation.
She's an adult cat who weight 3.5 lbs. Severe anemia due to starvation and bad kidney and other values. She's undergoing treatment now, but they don't have either the financial resources or enough time to give her, and I asked if they would consider transferring her to us (me). Some of you will remember Abigail who I took from the same group last year. She came in with terrible wounds, little ability to use her back legs, and horrible respiratory problems which took some months to put right. Since they know what we did for Abigail, they were very glad to have me take this little girl, who they named Vitalia (which means life.) She arrives Wednesday and has a vet appointment here Thursday morning. She absolutely breaks my heart, and I hope we can get her well and find her a loving home...clearly something she didn't have the first time.
The rescue who took her in has notified animal control and hopefully charges will be filed, since they know who left these poor cats behind. I'm thinking we should lock them in a cell somewhere without food for the same period of time that these cats went without, and see how that goes.
