After the bad weather of the past few days it was a relief on Tuesday to see Blue skies and sun and so I decided to do a walk around the local patch.
A Blackcap in the gardens was a nice start as I have not heard one for a few weeks, perhaps a male starting over after a failed attempt. But otherwise it was pretty quiet and there were no butterflies to be seen. There were White-tailed Bumblebees and Western Honey Bees busily collecting nectar from the flowers,
Onto the Tarn and here there was evidence of successful breeding with a number of family parties. This pair of Coot seemed intent on renovating their nest for a second brood despite the pleading of a solitary youngster nearby.
Caught a glimpse of one of the large Goldfish / Carp that inhabit the Tarn
The Goose Creche were on the move over the bridge. Most of the youngsters are nearly as big as the adults now, but one pair, staying at the edge of the party, had a more recent hatchling.
At the other end of the Tarn two young Coot were searching for their parent and got in amongst the Greylag Geese. I did hold my breath for a moment as one walked under a Goose and was promptly stepped on. It struggled on its back for a short while but then managed to right itself and carry on. The nearby parent bird seemed unconcerned.
As I was leaving I saw a Bumblebee actively feeding and went to have a closer look. It was a Garden Bumblebee, my first record of this species on the site this year.
