If you're going to do karaoke, you've got to know your songs!
Our choir, Vocal Point, had it's season ending party this week. And it was at a Karaoke Bar.
I wasn't going to sing. I save my karaoke singing for home. With a ladle for a microphone. And my family as my audience. They're going to love me no matter how badly I sing.
But I decided to join the fun at the Vocal Point party. What to sing?
Ah, yes. That Elvis song that we had at our wedding. Wise Men Say? Only Fools Rush In? What was it called?
This is the song I wanted to sing.
See, the problem with this karaoke bar is that they didn't have a catalogue that you could look through.
You text them with your name, the song title, and the artist.
I texted them: Peter_OnlyFools Rush In_Elvis
It took a long time to get to my song.
I was starting to lose my nerve.
This was taking too long.
Finally, my song came up.
I rushed up to the stage, grabbed the microphone, and took a deep breath.
I was ready to sing. I knew I could hit a couple of the notes in this song.
Wrong.
The song that started playing was Fools Rush In.
Which I had never heard of. And doesn't sound anything like Can't Help Falling In Love.
Time to wing it!
Was I good?
I was glorious. A glorious failure!
But I kept going.
They say don't let them see your fear.
My choir saw my fear. And my terror. And my acceptance of karaoke krashing!
It's only a song.
And it's only 2 to 3 minutes of embarrassment.
So, I may as well enjoy it.
Next time I pick a song BEFORE I go to the karaoke bar!
