Well, the ringworm spread to our personal cats...sigh...which makes everything so much harder. We've been very busy doing a spring cleaning in July, trying to eradicate any sign of ringworm in the house. Which is difficult, since it is invisible. Our two cats are isolated, and very unhappy about it, but it has to be for a few weeks. They are actually in the ferret cages, which I hate and they hate more, but they are so hard to medicate that I need them contained, and the containment also helps me prevent the spread of ringworm spores. I clean their cages daily, so we can get rid of this incredible nuisance as soon as possible. It is safe to safe no one in the house is very happy right now.
We are hoping it doesn't spread to the dogs - hence the cleaning! Once we have cleaned as much as we can we'll be giving the dogs a bath with an anti-fungal shampoo as a preventative.
On top of that, my computer's hard drive is dying. My computer guy has it working for now, while waiting for the new drive which came in, and my computer goes to him Monday afternoon to try to get everything running again. Are we having fun yet?
The kitchen, however, is wonderful, and having a dishwashing, other than my husband, is a huge help with the load right now. We will get through this, but we're never doing this again.
I gave my notice to the rescue a couple months ago, and will be ending my rescue/fostering career when my current crew gets adopted. It is so hard having to deal with things like ringworm, and the panleuk last fall. It makes pet sitting so much more difficult - don't want to spread anything to other homes. And it totally stops Gracie and I from doing pet therapy visits, since I can't be positive she doesn't have any ringworm. It's pretty invisible sometimes and I can't risk spreading it to kids, elderly, and people with compromised immune systems. So, I am ending my rescue career, at least in the fostering form. I've been adopting out 25-30 cats/kittens a year in the last many years, and done a ton of TNR before that, and I've put in my time. At 69, I would like to be able to spend more time doing pet therapy and other things I enjoy. I'll find ways to help the animals still, but managing the cat program 7 days a week and fostering on top of that, has become too much.
My current kittens are doing okay. Leo is always the one who is the holdout, but the other 5 kittens I have right now are looking good, and I hope to be able to make them available for adopting within a couple weeks. I'd show you pictures, but I don't take my phone into the isolation foster room to avoid carrying anything unwanted out!!
My computer goes to my computer guy Monday afternoon, so if I don't respond to you right away, and ready everyone's wonderful blogs, it is because I'm computer-less for a bit, ad I'll catch up when it is back up and running. I tried the application once and didn't love it....we'll see how long the computer is gone, and I may give it another try, but hoping the computer will be back within a day or so.
Try to stay cool out there; this summer's a scorcher.
