Wheeeeee … on our way home.
I can hardly wait to dig in the garden with my "new found spare time". I still have some shoulder pain, but it's not as bad.
Gary and I cleaned the cottage yesterday afternoon; he knows a routine. I'm insisting that we bring food home on ice packs: there is not a tremendous amount but rather than waste it, I'll feed to ravens or chickens. 🤷🏼♀️
Yesterday evening I kind of had a mood crash. I've been genuinely upbeat all week, but now I'm pretty homesick.
When Gary declared at 4 pm that we were pretty much finished cleaning the cottage, I said, "We should go …". We were tempted, but we have reservations for tonight. Better to get a good sleep.
Instead we went for an evening drive and Gary was the most excellent tour guide. He knows a great deal about Gimli and surrounding communities, history, feuds and scandals, origins of famous businesses like Ben Moss Jewellers and Salisbury House.
We don't know when we will be back. I let go of the idea of looking at real estate; we don't want to leave our home near McBride.
Even for vacations … this area is many hours further away from our nearest child or grandchildren.
And although I enjoyed everyone I met and I felt accepted, it would take a lifetime to feel "at home" in any new place.
So there you have it. Some people already have had wonderful times or a lifetime in this beautiful place.

P.s. I won't miss the short fish fly "season": they seem creepy but have no biting or stinging parts and live just a day.
