There are days when I wished I was brave enough to pack up my dog, a few of my possessions and that we would hit the road and see the Country.
Today I sat met aa woman at the train station who had just been released from the psyche ward and she had some belongings in two paper bags with her name written in big letters. She was having trouble figuring out her ticket so I helped her understand her train schedule.
She told me the hospital had helped her with her one way ticket to her hometown, where she told me she was supposed to report to jail and serve time for what sounded like a disorderly conduct ( fighting maybe ). She said someone had tried to steal her shoes.
" Well. " she told me. She was going to go to Safeway first and then she'd go to Jail. Maybe. If she could find the Jail once she got down there. She wasn't sure where the Safeway was but she was determined to find it so she could get her prescription filled.
Maybe just hitting the road isn't such a great idea.
Maybe the open road is just as sad and hopeless as the one running in front of your own front door.
I wish that dreams weren't such frail things- at least most of mine are.
