Many of us don't experience real hunger very often.
For most of us, food is aplenty. In the fridge. In a store. In a restaurant.
We take it for granted.
I've had a few people tell me that they never get hungry.
They eat because they're supposed to. But they don't have their body telling them that it's hungry.
Which has always astounded me!
I always experience hunger!!
Stomach growling. Hunger pains.
I'd feel that even before I did Intermittent Fasting. Where you cultivate being hungry on purpose.
I didn't experience hunger because food wasn't available or anything. My body gets hungry. And it tells me.
In The Comfort Crisis, Michael Easter talks about hunger. And our need to get comfortable with being hungry. If we want to get our bodies working the way they should.
Our bodies are designed to have periods of hunger so that all the food gets digested completely.
And then autophagy could start.
Autophagy is when your body eats up the waste in your system. It's like vacuuming out the junk that's floating around in your blood.
But it only happens after all the food has been digested. Around 12 to 16 hours after your last meal.
Guess what?
Most of us don't wait that long between meals or snacks.
So, most of us don't get a "proper cleaning" of our systems.
Some people have medical reasons to have frequent meals. People with diabetes come to mind. You should consult with a physician first, obviously.
But most people can safely experience some hunger.
A little discomfort can be good for you.
