It froze, or nearly froze, last night. I'm chatting with you while outside in our relatively underused new "oasis".
She is pretending to not wait for frittata.
I slept well last night. After an hour long phone visit with our niece from Edmonton, I dove into bed with the heating pad.
Those telephone chats always give me pause for thought and a 🤏 bit of worry. There is little to do but listen, so I fell asleep afterward anyway.
Up and dressed and out the door at 6 (now it's still dark at 5:30), and noting the crispness in the lawn and the air, I decided to harvest and dry the chives.
One can buy that many dried chives for pennies, but there is some pride in growing one's vegetables and herbs.
I dug up the last of the potatoes yesterday afternoon. They are "scabby" no matter what we do, but I peeled and blanched about 15 pounds and froze them.
Spuds are cheap, but there's a noticeable difference in taste between our own and store bought. We don't grow food to save money.
I pulled half the remaining carrots, which keep very well just in the fridge drawers. I might chop, blanch and freeze some of those as well.
Did you know that mesh bags of carrots can be cleaned in the washing machine? I've done it for years: no detergent or anything, set on delicate and "no spin" or low spin.
When you think of it … would they have flunkies like me cleaning carrots one at a time in a carrot facility?
This morning, Montana and I clipped Rocky's nails. He's squirmy and feisty, but really only wants to bite the offending devices ie. clippers and Dremel.
Okay, I'm off to deliver water to my precious plants before they freeze down for the winter. Could happen soon: we often have a hard frost that spoils a lot of our fun, then weeks of "Indian Summer" (if we can still say that).
Hope your day is a good one.
~ Ann
