More reps are not necessarily better in the gym or in life. Why is this? A phrase you've probably heard of called 'diminishing returns'. After a while, the gains we make by doing more become smaller but annoyingly, the cost to get them becomes greater.
It's a bit like someone who experiences a euphoric high after completing their first ever sprint triathlon. This high is slightly less after their first Olympic triathlon, borders on indifference after their first half-ironman and comes close to a mental breakdown after their first ironman. And then what?!
The highs are getting smaller but the effort required to obtain them greater. What started out as a 3-day training week to get fit, with a massive sense of achievement at the end, has led to you being on a bike all day Sunday while your health, the health of your family and most other aspects of your life are going down the pan.
Where have you being trying to add more reps with less success?
Make a list and we'll discuss why it's a problem next time.
