In recent weeks we've spoken about protecting our energy, the seed of our health. We have compared modern living to a water-logged field that never gets enough time to drain and we've come up with a few tools to help release the pressure week to week.

But sometimes, it's not enough and we need what I call the big reset. The big reset is essentially a holiday where you apply the principles we've talked about over the course of a few days.

There was a time a holiday was about letting loose, being entertained etc. but nowadays life is run like one giant carnival and we need to swap it around. We need to go on holidays to slow down to what normal life might have been like at one time.

I've just come back from a holiday where I switched off my phone for the week. After the first two days of feeling like my right hand was missing and ruminating on things that I had going on at home - that field began to drain like no tomorrow.

Eventually my short-term worries were gone and I could process the last 6-months and the things I did like get married, move city, finish a rugby season, change the nature of my work and some of my relationships – essentially just get myself back to zero and ready for the field to fill again.

I chose a hotel with nothing around it only a beach i.e. no villages to explore or things to do. It didn't hurt that I also exercised, ate well, got some sun on my back, had some cold beers and slept well every night.

Ready to go again.
