I'm glad so many of you enjoyed Mickey's picture yesterday. He's quite adorable and a total snuggle bug. I might actually have trouble giving this little guy up when the time comes, if it comes! He's a huge fan of just snuggling under my chin and being held, and that's quite irresistible,
He is stable these days, but that's not terribly encouraging, for me. Better than tanking, but I am hoping we can do better over time. He's gained 2-3 ounces in the last 10 days, but he weighs less than half what his brothers weigh. (His brothers got their neuter surgeries yesterday, and will be going home on Friday!)
Mickey is staying stable with lots of support. B-12 shots, pancreatic enzyme powder to pre-digest his food, and Predinsolone (steroid) to keep the intestines from being inflamed. The good news is that his stools are normal now, and some days I have to wonder where all the food he is eating is going since he isn't putting on a lot of weight and he doesn't have diarrhea anymore. It has to be going somewhere, right?? (Aside from all over his mouth!)
Mickey will be seeing a vet with an internal specialty the week after next, and I hope we can find some answers.
In the meantime, he has a new problem, or one that has been developing over time and it didn't seem relevant until the last couple days. He has always put his food over to the right side of his mouth to eat, which isn't typical, but didn't seem terribly concerning, until I noticed that he is now bleeding out of the left side of his mouth after he eats. Sigh. Vet appointment Thursday to take a look at that. We've all been so focused on his abdominal issues that I don't know that we've ever really given his mouth a good look. I'm hoping that's not anything serious, but I suspect it is painful, and am glad we can get that checked out. What would a week be without a vet visit with Mickey??
I wanted to show you a little of Mickey in motion - he's so cute. He eats in the bathroom, so I open the foster room door just enough for him to get out (and not his brothers) and he waddles over to the bathroom. When he's hungry he moves fast! But in this short video, it isn't mealtime, so he's just sauntering a bit. Pardon the first few seconds of the video where you're just seeing the door..very hard managing the door, the kittens and the camera all at once. Anywhere, here's Mickey the Adorable.
Not exactly high quality video, but Mickey is just so damn cute. Anyway, that's the update for now. It's always something with this little one. He's a hot mess. But hopefully we can figure it all out in the long run. Paws crossed.
