Well, it isn't really a toy, but it sorta acts like one. A vet tech friend discovered this at a conference recently and I ordered one right away. (I am not being paid to promote this, just fyi.) The De'Vora Scratch Square (which comes in many sizes) is a really easy and fun way to trim your pup's nails. It may work with cats too...I haven't tried yet, but will in the upcoming days.

No assembly required...always a good thing. You just pop a couple treats in the holes on the side and put it down and watch your pup scratch it trying to get the treats out. (It pays to use slightly large treats that won't come out too easily.) In the process, nails are trimmed! When we are out walking a lot, the sidewalk serves much the same function (without treats, of course) but in the winter we don't walk as much, and the sidewalks are often covered with snow or ice, so not so useful. Gracie had a blast with it right off the bat. The only disadvantage is that mostly the front nails will be trimmed, unless you have a very athletic animal who finds a way to scratch with her hind legs.

I love finding a fear-free method, that lets the dog have all the choice in the world, and still gets the job done. Win - Win.
