[New post] Poaching My Unpublished Baby for Blog Content – Writing Attention to Agency #7
Peter Curtiss posted: " Photo by Andrea Piacquadio on Pexels.com It's been a hot minute since my last update on this, but I'll keep it short. I sent out a bunch of proposals, didn't really get much in the way of responses, and eventually got pretty discouraged. So, now, "
It's been a hot minute since my last update on this, but I'll keep it short. I sent out a bunch of proposals, didn't really get much in the way of responses, and eventually got pretty discouraged.
So, now, I'm working on the book again, mostly editing. But, I'm also going to be poaching the book for ideas for the blog. I'm hoping that by doing this I accomplish a few things:
Renew my interest in working on the book.
Refine some of my ideas from the book as a write on them further.
Get some low hanging fruit in terms of ideas for content for the blog.
Attract interest and (hopefully) get a following of those who are interested in the subject material for my book.
Just to revisit, here's the elevator pitch for the book:
"How to take responsibility for one's mental fitness in a world of distraction, designed to strip us of our attention, the most important ingredient for agency."
I've already started to do this poaching - a post from last week discussed my objections to James Clear's "Improve 1% a Day" model, which is a part of my concluding chapter where I talk about some objections to the self-help general in general (largely, that they overpromise and rely on hype/hustle porn).
But, at least self help is practical - my objections to self help sort of serve as a balance/foil to my objections to philosophy, which is that, while it's often technical and precise, it fails to be practical. More on that to come.
