Hello, bookworms!
Happy December 1st and happy last month of the year. We almost did it, another year is nearing its end and I am still here annoying the hell out of everyone, constantly talking about books, publishing and reading in general. Yay for me!
Anyways, I don't usually post TBRs anywhere, but I am a compulsive list maker, in case you didn't know. I am an absoulte TBR reader, and I love making them each month. Since these are the last reads I planned for 2022, I decided to share it on here. I am going to divide the books into categories, and I am going to explain a bit of each category and why/for what I plan on reading what book. I am not going to include any plots, or this article would be neverending. I am making it sound way more complicated than it actually is, though.
MANGA, COMICS AND GRAPHIC NOVELS
- Card Captor Sakura (Special Edition) by CLAMP, vol. 1-3;
- Pandora Hearts by Jun Mochizuki, vol. 1-5
- Vanitas no Carte by Jun Mochizuki, vol. 10 [reread];
- Bungo Stray Dogs by Kafka Asagiri and Sango Harukawa, vol. 2-3;
- Tokyo Revengers by Ken Wakui, vol. 21-22;
- Our Not-So Lonely Planet Travel Guide by Mone Sorai, vol. 3;
- Jujutsu Kaisen by Gege Akutami, vol. 17;
- House of M by Brian Michael Bendis and Olivier Coipel;
- La scuola di pizze in faccia del professor Calcare by Zerocalcare;
- Niente di nuovo sul fronte di Rebibbia by Zerocalcare;
- No Sleep Till Shengal by Zerocalcare;
- Guardati dal beluga magico by Daniel Cuello;
- Il buio colpisce ancora by Leo Ortolani.
These are all either volumes I own, or volumes I plan on buying in December. As you may have guessed, one of my biggest goals is to reduce my physical TBR this month, so that I can start 2023 feeling a little less guilty with my book buying problem. I know this seems like a lot of books, but I am putting all my faith into the holidays. So much so, I also wish to buddy read some more volumes with my friend Cloud, but we shall see how it goes.
CHALLENGES
- Seasonal Fears by Seanan McGuire;
- The One True Me and You by Remi K. England;
- Real Easy by Marie Rutkoski;
- Secluded Cabin Sleeps Six by Lisa Unger.
The title is pretty self explanatory: these four are the last books I need to read to complete the last two challenges I am missing, which are most anticipated (first three titles) and the Buzzwordathon (the prompt for this month is numbers).
MORE PHYSICAL BOOKS
- A Lady's Guide to Fortune-Hunting by Sophie Irwin;
- The Romanovs: 1613-1918 by Simon Sebag Montefiore;
- Soul of the Sword by Julie Kagawa;
- The Ice Princess by Camilla Läckberg;
- The Sun and Her Flowers by Rupi Kaur;
- The 100-Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out the Window and Disappeared by Jonas Jonasson.
Once again, this is pretty self explanatory. I am well aware it's basically a suicidal mission and I won't be able to read all these books in just 31 days, especially considering that from the 6th to the 11th I will be working all day at a book fair, but a reader can dream. These were picked because they are either quick reads, or because I have the audiobook on Storytel. In particular, I have the audio for The Romanovs, which I plan on reading all month long, because that thing is a non fiction brick, and while I am very interested in the history, I am also someone who hardly ever reads anything other than fiction, so it's gonna be hard.
BUDDY READS
- The Last Firefox by Lee Newberry (with Juls and Syl);
- Peril at Owl Park by Marthe Jocelyn (with Vitt);
- An Unsuitable Heir by K.J. Charles (with Juls).
These are for sure gonna happen, because they are the middle grade of the month, mystery of the month and last in a series respectively. If I end up not reading anything else, these and those I am using to complete the challenges are the 7 sure picks of December. I am especially excited to read The Last Firefox, as both Juls and I bought it on a whim while we were in London for YALC and I have been very curious ever since. I literally never heard or read any review or even comment for it, so I am going in completely blind, which hardly ever happens anymore, as I find most of my books online from someone gushing about them.
IF I CHANGE MY MIND / IF I HAVE THE TIME
- How to Excavate a Heart by Jake Maia Arlow;
- Kiss Her Once for Me by Alison Cochrun;
- You're a Mean One, Matthew Prince by Timothy Janovksy;
- Season of Love by Helena Geer;
- In the Event of Love by Courtney Kae.
Or, as I like to call this: am I finally entering my romance era? These five are all festive/holiday season themed queer romances, and I have been in the mood for contemporaries lately, so if I change my mind about any of the other books, these are going to be what I pick from, probably. I am really curious about them all, and I think December would be the right month to read them (not all of them, obviously). Also, if I manage to read at least one, I will have the whole month covered, as far as blog articles go, but we shall see, we shall see. I already have everything preplanned, but we all know everything could happen and I could basically be in a slump the whole month (hopefully not, though).
This is going to be all for today. Let me know what your plans for the last month of the year are, if you have any, and I will talk to you soon with a lot of new reviews — most of them Reading the Rainbow stuff, once again — and fun articles. At least, I think they are fun, but you'll be the judge of that. For now, sayonara my bookish friends!
