Yesterday started quietly with pets fed and petted, breakfast made and eaten, and then a handsome young dog "turned in". He was found shivering at the side of the road near McBride.
The moment I lifted him out of the good samaritan's vehicle, this puppy licked my face and relaxed. He ate treats right away. He's obviously well adjusted and well treated at home, and he didn't mind resting on blankets on the heated floor.

So, this dog was promptly claimed once the owner figured out who to call. He actually is two years old and who knows why he went walkabout on a bitterly cold morning. He might have gone home again, but he also could easily have been hit on the highway. That has happened to other pets on the run.
The only thing that distresses me is when others imply that I could have done better, posted elsewhere on Facebook, reported differently or asked someone else.
to those who feel I can do better, feel that they can do better. I don't mean to be touchy or defensive, but …
I have gone out to help look or rescue when I can, dropped everything to pick up pets, made phone calls, composed posts and so on. We've supplied secure heated quarters and food for animals we've never seen before and may or may not be claimed. We've received donations with gratitude, sometimes from folks who have never needed our help or services.
At any rate, we live in a great community.
After the stray was claimed and the "outdoor" work done (poop scooping), I realized that I was
out of dog treats. I didn't feel like thawing out a vehicle to go to town, or getting chilled again myself.
I mixed pressure-cooked scraps of smoked and roast pork with plain flour and a bit
of cornmeal. This is like scrapple or what was once known as hush puppies. No extra salt or anything else added, dried in the oven at 300° for hours. Even with a few dollars in hydro power, these are wholesome and cheap treats. In case any of my readers think these would be too rich or something, I dole them out in tiny bites.
Yesterday got a bit weird. All got sorted out though. Gary and I were cross with each other for a few hours minutes (depends who you ask).
Unrelated to that, but kinda strange, I got a phonecall from the same young friend who dropped off the stray dog in the morning. He was returning from Valemount and almost hit a dog on the highway at Dunster, about halfway between McBride and Valemount.
He picked up that dog and tried phoning numbers on her tag and checked with several locals.
Everyone knew the dog, but the owners were not home. So guess who took in the dog 'Missy'? Our young friend is definitely a dog rescuer today, and I'm a willing accomplice. I'll post a photo of Missy another day.

Today I have two or three small dogs to groom. Not a gruelling day.
Hope your day is pleasant and not the least bit gruelling!
