Well, things toddle along in fosterland here. First, Abigail got adopted - HOORAY!! And she got a great home. Within 24 hours there she was sitting in laps, wrapping herself around legs, and doing all the things she does. She will have a wonderful life!
Ember is still here and probably will be for a long time. His medical woes continue, and we continue to try to figure out exactly what they are. In the meantime, he has a room of his own, with regular room service and visits from Marley and me.
Now, on to the kittens.
First, meet the sisters, Mulberry (black) and Bearberry (white with black). Let's all say "awwwwww" together now.
Everyone is doing well, with a little bit of rockiness in the transition from mom to here, but we're on steady ground now. I had to do a little bottle feeding for a few days (and 1:00 am mornings...ugh) but they are all eating from bowls now and as long as they get a feeding around 9:30 or 10 pm they can make it until 6 am, though the chorus is pretty loud for breakfast service.
The glitch (there's always a glitch) is that Boysenberry decided he needed to suck on everyone's genitals. Which is not only gross, it is downright dangerous especially for his brother. Details aren't needed here, but severe damage can be done to genitals being sucked on, even damage resulting in surgery, so this behavior is absolutely unacceptable.
The only solution (this is a common problem) is to separate Boysenberry from the rest, so he is the first inhabitant of my newest cate, one that works really well for kittens.
It has multiple levels, and Boysenberry wasted no time exploring up and down the ladders, and as you can see, it gets the afternoon sun, which the enclosure of the others on the floor does not, so he got a great deal. He was a little distressed to be separated but he got a snuggle puppy with a heartbeat to keep him company and a faux fur bed that he absolutely loves. He gets supervised playdates with his siblings, and when he tries to go for their genitals a wand toy distracts and redirects him so he gets to continue to play with the rest. Hopefully he will outgrow this, but in the meantime, everyone needs to be safe and comfortable!
Gracie comes to the side of Boysenberry's cage and visits too, and I'm thinking Gracie would be a good playmate for Boysenberry. No chance of his trying to suck Gracie!!
More photos to come in the future. I've been so busy settling everyone and feeding every 5 hours, and such, that I haven't gotten many photos yet, but these little stunners will be easy to photograph.
Stay tuned, and for those of you in the US, have a wonderful holiday weekend while we remember all of those who gave the ultimate price for our freedom.
