The rest of the week and the weekend are going to be busy. It's suddenly busy today, then a few will go home and others will arrive.
Because of their own urgent situation, I have four dogs from one family, having arrived last night.
I went to bed feeling the weight of other people's sorrows, crying and helpless except to be here with the dog services.
Today is a new day, cool and overcast, but fine anyway. I woke up thinking, "Who's got the baby? Who is feeding the baby?". There is no baby here, human or pet. What a relief to regain consciousness!
We have Ada, Odin, Chloe, Xena, Luke, Tyson, Cash, Juno, Remi, Charlie and Jack. There are a few more coming this afternoon.
Many pet owners ask at the last minute, upon "drop off", if I can groom their dog or cat while they stay here. It's fair that they ask, but I need to decide whether to say yes or no on a case-by-case basis. Sometimes it's just too much.

When I can, I get back to the gardening. I remember Eleanor Bernard's advice, "Just start in any corner …", and sometimes this helps me overcome inertia. But there are so many corners. It's overwhelming, but I'm the master of my own fate. It's harder to downsize the gardens than the house.
All the animals are looked after, humans too (thank goodness there's no baby … ). I'd better get going, find a corner to start in.
Love, Ann
