Back into the world of Doctor Who, for this second-part of the Doctor Who character drawing series on today's topic at The Autistic Animator's Desk. For the first time, you'll get to see my animated character drawings and designs of my next favorite Doctor, and that's the 11th Doctor.
The last time I've shared you a Doctor Who character drawing fan art was with the 10th/14th Doctor (David Tennant) drawings, so if you have not seen the drawings of him and the topic itself, please feel free to check it out in the link down below. The series will be reaching for its 60th anniversary of its first released onto television in 1963, and with the celebration approaching this November, it'll be coming back with new specials, and David Tennant is coming back as the Doctor, but this time as the 14th Doctor. And so, I'm doing three fan art drawing pieces of my favorite Doctors, designing them in my own 2D animation style in digital drawing medium on Autodesk SketchBook. Like I've just mentioned, I've already done the drawings of the 10th/14th Doctor, today you'll get to see the drawings of the 11th Doctor, and I'll be posting the War Doctor drawings in October.
The 11th Doctor is my second favorite Doctor of the Doctor Who series. He is played by Matt Smith. Like the 10th/14th Doctor drawings, these are my very first drawings of the 11th Doctor in his own animation design. They're all drawn on Autodesk SketchBook at 1080 x 1420.
We first meet the 11th Doctor in the last scene in the final episode from Season 4, when the 10th Doctor is regenerated from David Tennant into Matt Smith inside of the TARDIS, and then Smith becomes the main Doctor in the first episode of Season 5 to the end of Season 7 with the Christmas special, until he regenerates into Peter Capaldi as the 12th Doctor; the 11th Doctor's companions are Amy Pond (Karen Gillan) and her husband, Rory Williams (Arthur Duvall), and Clara Oswald (Jenna Coleman). And of course, he gets a new sonic screwdriver, and it glows green.
I think this Doctor was really fun to draw, as comparable to David Tennant as the 10th/14th Doctor, and including the War Doctor (John Hurt), in which we'll get to him soon within the next month. It's fun and delight to draw any of the Doctors of the series, whether you are watching the Classic Doctor Who or the New Doctor Who, especially drawing any one of them into a cartoon, just to see what they'll look like in your own animation style.
I begin working on the 11th Doctor (Matt Smith) character drawing project in the first week of August, and like how I approached with the 10th/14th Doctor drawings, I would look at each Google images of the 11th Doctor for references, in order for me to design him to make him look like the animated Matt Smith. Then, I would always begin with the first drawing, do one drawing at a time, and the reason why was because whenever I'm finished with the first drawing of the Doctor, no matter which one it is, I would send it to the group chat on Instagram, run by Mason Milne, who runs a podcast on autism and Crohn's disease called Crohn's & Autism Awareness Advocate. He is a longtime Doctor Who fan. He even does a Doctor Who fan episodes on his podcast. In the group chat, I'll wait for them to give me a critique for each drawing, and if they like it, that's wonderful. If not, then I'll go back and fix it. As it turns out, everyone liked all of three 11th Doctor drawings, so that's awesome and that makes me happy
As an artist, you do need to hear critiques before you can show your work, either you're planning on sharing it in the museum, in the sweatbox room in the animation company, on YouTube, or on your blog. Because I'm still kind of new on watching Doctor Who, even though it'll be a year since I've watched it for the first time in November, I want to hear critiques from people who have been longtime fans of the series and let them help me to get to know more of the Doctor, no matter which actor plays him.
The 11th Doctor character drawing project was finished on August 14th, 2023. So now, let's take a look at the drawings down below in the next section!
11th Doctor Drawing 1
Digital drawing, 1080 x 1420
Here we are with the first drawing of the 11th Doctor, and as you can see, Matt Smith as the 11th Doctor has been transformed into a cartoon character! But of course, you all have already seen the cartoon David Tennant as the 10th/14th Doctor from the previous topic.
In this drawing, you see the 11th Doctor wearing his long dark purple suit with dark purple vest and bow tie, very dark purple pants, and dark brown boots.
11th Doctor Drawing 2
Digital drawing, 1080 x 1420
Second drawing we see here is the 11th Doctor wearing his sandy brown jacket, dark pink shirt, dark red bow tie, darker gray pants, and dark boots. I could be wrong, it's been a while, but I think he wore this costume throughout Season 5. Of course, cannot forget his iconic green sonic screwdriver, too!
When the Doctor's sonic screwdriver has been changed from blue to green, it does remind me of Luke Skywalker's lightsaber changes from the blue to green, after he lost his blue lightsaber, when his hand was chopped off by Darth Vader, during the climatic fight scene in Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back (1980). He gets a green lightsaber in Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi (1983). That'll be cool if Luke teams up with the Doctor, wouldn't it?
11th Doctor Drawing 3
Digital drawing, 1080 x 1420
And finally, moving on with the third of the three 11th Doctor drawings. He's back in his dark purple suit, as similar to the first drawing, but he's wearing a light purple waistcoat, and he's holding up his sonic screwdriver.
So that's all of the 11th Doctor (Matt Smith) fan art drawings, and I hope you all enjoyed each one of them in this topic, and I cannot wait to share the drawings of the War Doctor this October! It's going to be such fun! In the meantime, please check out a YouTube clip of the 50th Anniversary Special, the episode called "The Day of the Doctor" from Season 7, where David Tennant and Matt Smith interacting as the Doctors meeting together for the first time. It's one of my favorite episodes of the series.
