Perchance a cat? Ms. Holmes did say. Nay, a goose is loose today, visiting the neighborhood and pecking at the children good. Mr. Finley sent his dog to scare the errant bird aloft. Last I heard, got for his trouble vet bills for his injured pit bull. Ms. Mays and I put up the feed left out for feral cats and seed strewn for birds who visit daily, the mini dinos that sing gaily. We watched our doorbell cameras for signs the goose was here no more. When suddenly, to our surprise, a long-lost sight for sore eyes, the feral Maybelle at my door, gnawing flesh, and what's more, blood and feathers in her fur. Her red-faced kittens all a blur running, playing tug-and-pull with little round bellies full. A most delicious dish they hooked. And that was how the goose was cooked.
