Gary is already out the door and down the road. He has gone back to Manitoba, this time to help his mom with the final stages of moving into a new apartment in a new building.
As today is only one week post-hernia-repair, lifting is forbidden. He claims he'll be fine with his suitcase, which is more than 10 pounds.
Gary promises he's only going for moral support for his mom, who seems to be coping well.
We have never been separated for this long twice in this short a span of time, but I cope fairly well on my own, and we are in frequent touch. I'm feeling so much better than I did in August and my work has slowed to a minimum, partly by design (my plan to retire) and partly because the busy summer has ended.
Minna is coming for the day, and Rocky is going home after his owner's night shift. Piper and Buster checked out last night, then I only have Lemmy, Casey, Sophie, Frodo, Harley and Cooper.
Folks are asking what I will do with my spare time if I retire. The question is legit and well-meaning. I expect to catch up to tasks that have been preying on my mind and causing this panicky feeling. There is nothing that urgent left undone after the care of animals and people, but maybe I'll enjoy "catching up" more.
And perhaps I'll take short trips to visit family and friends. Gary and I might be able to go somewhere together other than to a medical or dental appointment in Prince George.
