Yes, Thursday is my favourite day, every week, almost without fail.
I can't explain why that is, and I'm not going to share what is keeping me awake at 3 am., but I'll give you a hint.
Yesterday, I remarked to Gary that the car I just paid for is the biggest bit of "property" either of us has bought ever. He replied, "Uh uh, no … you built a house, remember?"
So that is true, but the original expense was a bargain, the crappy house on a beautiful lot in McBride. The demolition and the starting-from-scratch, building a small house on spec, was a voyage of discovery and of "nickels and dimes" and credit card *cough* use.
Even the home that we have now was a steal of a deal. The older home in McBride that I bought many years ago and sold eventually: you guessed it, another bargain and adventure with modest 🤏 profit.
So you guessed it. I don't regret anything, but am juggling funds again.
I shouldn't share so much. I'm not at the point I need to come out of retirement, but our timing is odd.
We got home to messages yesterday on the answering machine both yesterday and the day before. A local guy who has been subsisting on a disability pension all his adult life was asking me for help.
We hardly know each other, but he needs money to feed cats. There is a feral colony of unfortunate felines at his acreage. The population probably started from "dumped" animals, and D. cannot control their numbers.
He says he has already asked for help from rescue societies. What annoyed me was that D. was very specific about the type of food he needs for the cats and the number of bags he wants. I don't feel like driving to town, buying pet food and going to that guy's acreage to deliver.
I was overtired from all the excitement of the last month. When I finally got D. to answer his phone in person, I told him that I do want to help, and he could come to our house to get some cash. I know D. drives to town almost every day (I see him, and I notice because he drives a Honda Civic just like ours.)
He told me, "I spent all my money in Prince George last week.". Now, I don't need to know anything about that, but if he still has gas in the car, he can take a donation and buy the cat food himself.
Over the years, people have made donations to me in the interest of pet rescues, so it is entirely right that I help. Our unfortunate friend down the road couldn't know about the new car, but his timing is odd too.
Not every pet has it so good
Other than a medical appointment in Prince George later this month, I hope we can stay home for a long time now. Isn't it ironic that one of the reasons I wanted to retire was that I was so tied down?
We choose to live here, but winter driving is often a challenge. Even yesterday's trip to P.G. was treacherous though not bad coming home (some ice had melted and some road maintenance had been done).
