The prompt was: "If you could un-invent something, what would it be?"
Some people might say "the Internet" or "social media." Although there are obvious negatives to be found here, there are certainly plenty of positives too. All social media is not bad; in fact, it can be incredibly uplifting; it can bring people together; it can even save lives, and has done so.
So, when I think of something that has absolutely no redeeming qualities, that I would like to "un-invent," it would have to be the gun. Going further - any kind of gun, and any weapon of war, including bombs.
Having said that, I am not optimistic that even if these horrible machines disappeared off the face of the Earth, humans would not quickly get to work, to invent some new instrument of torture and death to inflict on each other.
So, why say technology such as smartphones is automatically "bad"? Are we afraid of technology (AI, cybercrimes, and more)? These things can be controlled. We have the ability to sort them out. But guns?
I am much more afraid of the gun.
