Deadline February 20, 2024!
The wonderful Island Innovation, founded by the equally wonderful James Ellsmoor (I can just see him blushing now!) has a fantastic programme on offer. I hope many young Caribbean people with a hunger for climate justice will apply! It's funded by Open Society Foundations and it is the Caribbean Climate Justice Leaders Academy.
Last year young leaders received full funding to attend COP28 in Dubai. They were from almost every Caribbean country, except Jamaica. Come on, young Jamaicans, we want you to represent your country - so step up to the plate!
So, what is the purpose of the Island Innovation programme? Young activists, young professionals, eligible students, and community leaders will learn about climate justice, engage with global policymakers, and promote (and hopefully implement) climate action projects.
The top 5 participants will be able to travel to the 2024 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP29) as part of a fully-funded on-site learning experience in Baku.
So, do you believe in justice? Inclusiveness? Protecting the most vulnerable in your community? Ensuring they have an equal voice? Increasing support for women? Engaging in action projects to ensure social cohesion and self-help? If you do, or if you would like to learn more about how to get passionate on this topic, you really should apply by February 20, 2024! The programme will start in May 2024 and last until January 2025.
- Participants should be Caribbean nationals or residents over 10+ years within the Caribbean region
- Aged between 18-35 years
- Have relevant work, field, or study academic experience with a demonstrated track record in and commitment to:
- Justice issues or
- Sustainable innovation or
- Environmental advocacy or
- Community and grassroots organization
And of course, great communication skills and ability to work as a good team member are also critical.
So, please - go for it! These opportunities are truly "golden"...
Apply today!
