Dragon years, rabbit months, camel weeks, dog days: END FEB 2024 TRACKINGWhat's happened, what's current; or what's coming ... and why I like animal timeEnter the dragon! This is the Year of the Dragon! The wood dragon year started on 10 February 2024, a time of rejuvenation, regeneration, reformation, revolution, and evolution, say eastern astrologers. For me, the year has commenced in animal time – the months, the weeks, and the days. And as the year starts, so the year goes. Let me start with dragon years, for I love a good dragon year and a good dragon yarn. Who doesn’t love a dragon story? Legendary dragons have appeared across both Asia and Europe since time began and fill our fantasy world with stories of bravery and chivalry. Think St. George and the dragon! I’m ready to protect and defend Komodo Dragons and dragonflies, and to slay demonic dragons breathing fire and ferocity. Of course, the challenges of the year are best dissected into chunk-sized months. I call each month a white rabbit month. Specifically, the white rabbit month is the first day of each month. The very first thing I do on the first day of the month, as I wake, is to say, three times, “white rabbit, white rabbit, white rabbit.” It’s a superstitious habit or a reflection of my love of Lewis Carroll’s 1865 children’s book, Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland! The saying signifies growth, expansion, and good luck, fitting in 2023 for the Year of the Rabbit, and not a bad fit for the abundant Year of the Dragon in 2024. I split each month into weeks to manage workflow and the routines of life. Sometimes, the weeks are hectic. I refer to the hectic weeks as camel weeks. They are the weeks I get little sleep and try to make up for the lack of sleep by resting on weekends. More correctly, I call them sleep camel weeks. As for dog days – well, most people know what they are. Not the dark days! Many people think that the dog days are hot days – the summer days that people look forward to. But the dog days are, actually, the hottest of the hottest days – the listless days fatigued with heat – the days of sapped energy – the days of inactivity. So, in my dragon year this year, there will be twelve white rabbit months for certain, some camel weeks, and a few dog days. And talking of dog days – real dog days – actually, dog-gone days, my sister’s sweet Angus passed last week, in February. I say my good-byes to a darling of a dog!
