Concetta Noto and Giuseppi Morreale
In today's genealogical research, I came across family history gold: a photograph. I love seeing photos of my ancestors -- even when the relationship is not a direct one. It helps me imagine what they were like if I can see their faces, their hairstyles, and their clothes. I had a photo of these two, but it's not nearly as clear and beautifully preserved as this one.
Concetta Noto was the aunt of the wife of a great-uncle on my mother's paternal side. Got that? She and her husband, Giuseppi Morreale, came from the town of Santa Margherita de Belice, in Sicily. While all of my ancestors, as far as I know, came from Italy, I know of very few from Sicily.
I wonder if Concetta was Giuseppi's second wife. He was 21 years old than she was, and was in his late 50s when their three sons were born. Charles, Thomas, and Angelo grew up and emigrated to New York. All three lived into their 80s and 90s.
Concetta, born in 1852, was the oldest child of two daughters and six sons born to Francesca Russo, also from Santa Margherita de Belice, and Tommaso Noto, of Palermo. Francesca and Tommaso married in Sicily in 1845.
Concetta's husband Giuseppi was born in 1831 to Giovanna Mauceri and Calogero Morreale. So far, I know nothing at all about their lives. Yet.
But I do love this photo of Concetta and Giuseppi, taken in about 1912.
